Stolen car in petrol thefts

A vehicle stolen in Whakatane on January 24 is wanted by police for six petrol drive-offs.

Whakatane response manager Senior Sergeant Yvonne Parker says the driver of the gold 2000 Nissan Maxima failed to pay for $103 of petrol at Z Whakatane yesterday.

Whakatane Police are asking for any information about a stolen vehicle involved in petrol drive-offs around the Bay of Plenty.

Yvonne says the vehicle was also involved in petrol drive-offs in Tauranga on January 6, 8, 19 and 25, along with a petrol theft in Rotorua on January 24.

The vehicle's registration number is ZS3582.

'If anyone sees this vehicle, please phone 111 immediately,” she says.

Under-utilised signs

When vehicles like this reach pest status, I wonder if Transit would let Police load wanted rego numbers onto their unused illuminated road hazard signs. The 'ownership' of the signs could be said, after all, to be taxpayer property? If the signs are suddenly 'needed', then that's OK.

Had yesterday's drive-off occurred 3 months ago the losses would've been 47 cents per litre higher. And did the Nissan Maxima have a golfers hat in the rear window - if so we may have a prime suspect already.
