TECT boosts local economy

The Western Bay of Plenty is once again set to benefit from Tauranga Energy Consumer Trust's (TECT) annual pay-out.

During November, $28.4 million will be distributed to over 55,000 TECT Consumers.

TECT chair Bill Holland.

Trustpower power account holders who have had an account continuously from April 1 to September 30, 2014, and live in the Tauranga or the Western Bay of Plenty region, are in line for the annual cheque.

The cheque in the mail each year is a bonus for many in the region, and over the last 21 years the average cheque amount has risen from $30 in 1993 to just over $500 this year.

And with distribution timed nicely before Christmas, it's likely the majority of cheques will be put straight back into Tauranga's retail sector, providing a huge boost to the local economy.

The base amount for this years' cheque is $425, which is $25 up from last year. 'The TECT cheque is a tremendous boost to the Tauranga economy every year,” says TECT chair Bill Holland.

'We are delighted that we have again been able to increase the payment to our Consumers.”

Frostbites "fact" does not withstand any research. A quick look at Wikipedia shows our unit costs are lower than most of Western Europe for example.Denmark and Germany are almost twice NZ
