Two deliberately lit vegetation fires sparked the Tauranga Fire Brigade to call police last night.

Firefighters were called to two separate fires, one on Carmichael Road at 10.30pm and another 20 minutes earlier on Millers Road at 10.10pm.

Tauranga Fire Brigade were called to two separate fires, one on Millers Road and another on Carmichael, they say were deliberately lit.

Tauranga Fire Brigade senior station officer Mark Keller says one fire was a rubbish bin which had been set alight and another was to a bush, similar to a toi toi, which had been deliberately lit.

Mark says: 'We called police to the scene and had a look around after we had put the fires out.”

Police are looking into the matter.
