Scott celebrates with brunch date

National's re-elected Coromandel MP Scott Simpson is this morning celebrating his 14,783 vote majority over his rival candidates with "a really good coffee" and brunch with family, friends and supporters.

Scott won his electorate with 34,346 votes in last night's election vote count, with his nearest rival Green Party candidate Catherine Delahunty taking 5382 votes, followed by Labour's Korbinian Poschl with 3858 and fourth in was New Zealand First candidate Grant Ertel with 2929.

Scott Simpson is today celebrating winning re-election to the Coromandel seat with a 14,783 vote majority.

National collected 18,738 part votes in the electorate, with Labour second with 5320, New Zealand First Party close behind with 4356, the Green Party with 3189 and the Conservatives with 1817. All other parties failed to make 100 votes.

Speaking to SunLive with a croaky voice this morning, Scott says he feels very humbled by his win.

'The result in the Coromandel was a team for the National Party and John Key and I had a very good team on the ground in the Coromandel – and they deserve the result we collectively achieved.

'I'm very proud of them but humbled at the size of the mandate I've been given.”

Scott says this morning he'll meet with some family members, friends and supporters to have brunch to celebrate at about 10am.

'I've very much looking forward to having a really good coffee and probably some bacon and eggs.”

Scott says the Prime Minster has bust few day ahead but the public can expect their re-elected national party to push on with 'business as usual”.

'I think that's what New Zealanders voted for yesterday – they voted for a continuation of the stable, prudent careful management of John key and the National Party team.”

Scott says his closest rival, Green Party candidate Catherine Delahunty's result speak more of a lacklustre Labour result than it does of a Green Party achievement.

'Catherine's personal vote and the Green's Party vote are both down on their 2011 performance.

'I think that speaks more of a weak labour party than a strong Green one,” says Scott.

With Scott heading back to the beehive, he says the Coromandel we can look forward to some new initiatives – 'I'm hugely excited about several of our local communities being possibilities of the rollout of ultrafast broadband.

'That includes Katikati and I'm also excited about further rollout of the rural broadband initiative to make access more available and geographically isolated parts of the electorate.

'That's important because that's the infrastructure we need to build a strong local economy – and that's what it' all about.

'From there we can provide all services and government agencies Coromandel people can deserve and expect.”
