Sticking to the message

I've been lucky enough to see most candidates on the campaign trail in both the Tauranga and Bay of Plenty Electorates.

What I've been impressed with is how the Nats stay away from personality politics and stick to their message of building a stronger economy and from that, jobs, better health care and even belter education can follow.

Look at the others and in the main they make truly expensive promises: Labour $18billion, Greens $10b and Winston First $17b, without possibly having the money to pay for them, all the while attacking all the others that don't agree with them

Interestingly, none of those parties are on the same page with their promises so where's the $45b going to come from or even, who'll blink first if they come to sit at the same table for a cup of tea?

'Steady as she goes” works for me at the moment thanks.

G Harris, Ohauiti.

Total Government spending is about $70 biilion pus every year

G.Harris is being sucked in by National propaganda. There will be over $100 billion of Government spending every year regardless of which Government we have. Quite simply Labour will not be borrowing to pay for its spending. National has borrowed over $50 billion over the past 6 years to pay for its spending. Labour has different economic priorities from National, including getting more tax from the wealthy. The $50 billion that the National Government has borrowed is nearly a year's income. What self respecting business would take pride in padding its income by borrowing an extra 50% that it has no plans to pay back?
