I have recently returned from overseas to see the barrage of election signs sprinkled liberally across the city.

For many years I have been interested and involved in politics. It never ceases to amaze me that political wannabes will invest their money in a battle they cannot win.

For those dreamers who've invested significant sums in those signs, I am truly sad.

However, on a positive note, I have decided to use my electorate vote to see if I can get a deposit refund for one of these enthusiasts. The refund is given to those who poll more than 5 per cent of the votes. My calculation says about 2000 votes should do it.

The winner for my vote is Yvette Lamare, who in 2011 got 61 votes or 0.17 per cent. Let's hope my vote counts towards a refund. Disclamer: I have no idea who Yvette is. But congratulations to her for giving it a shot.
