Police investigate alleged robbery

Waikato Police are investigating an alleged robbery at the Pirongia Hotel in Pirongia overnight.

Just after midnight the two owners were tidying up at the Franklin Street hotel when police say two men entered the hotel, threatened and assaulted them, tied them up and stole a quantity of cash.

Police say the two men fled from the scene in a vehicle, leaving the victims tied up in the office.

Although bound, one was able to get to a phone and call police. Both victims received minor injuries but did not need medical treatment.

Police are carrying out a forensic examination of the scene this morning.

One of the alleged robbers is described as a male of medium build, wearing a dark jacket over a grey hoodie. The other appears younger than the first and is also described as a male of medium build, wearing a flouro-pink T-shirt over a dark hoodie and a cap.

Police are asking for help from the public to identify the two robbers, and the vehicle they used to leave the scene.

Any information should be phoned to Hamilton Police, 07 858 6200.
