Willing Steamers fall short again

ITM Cup victory continues to elude the Bay of Plenty Steamers, with the side demolished 56-27 by the Tasman Makos in Mount Maunganui yesterday.

The loss leaves the Bay side 0-2 for the 2014 season and just above bottom-placed North Harbour in the Championship Division thanks to a superior points differential.

In perfect conditions at ASB Baypark on Sunday afternoon the Makos crossed the line seven times with first five Marty Banks leading the way, kicking 21 points and also scoring a try.

The Steamers managed to grab their first ITM Cup point through a four try bonus point – Kane Hames, Joe Royal, Tino Nemani and Johan Bardoul all scoring.

The side are now without a win for more than 12 months – last registering a win on August 25 against Hawke's Bay 24-20.

Next up is Taranaki in New Plymouth on August 31.
