Putting ‘ninja’ skills to the test

The popular television series American Ninja Warrior is being recreated in Mount Maunganui as people put their physical skills to the test.

The Manic Room, next to The Rock House on Triton Ave, has designed their very own Ninja Warrior Challenge based on the American show.

Jacob Kelly, 14, is showing off his ‘ninja warrior' skills at the Manic Room.

'We have custom built equipment that is designed to push the contestants to their limits and challenge their strength and agility,” says event organiser Izzi Hair.

'There are four stages which will require endurance and determination. We have three different age categories: under 10 years, 11-15 years and 16years plus.”

People have been taking part in the event since 9.30am today.

"We've got heaps of people from all over the country who have come here to have a go.

"It's been a pretty good success so far, we have about 23 people competing."

This is the first event of its kind at the Manic Room and Izzi hopes it will become an annual event.
