Sex offender admits more charges

A convicted sex offender sentenced to 12 months' home detention in 2012 for sexual acts against a seven-year-old Whakatane girl has pleaded guilty to 11 more charges.

Trevor Richard Hall, 62, appeared in Tauranga District Court this morning where he admitted the charges relating to three other victims between 1996 and 2010.

He was remanded in custody until August 19 when a judge will rule on where he should be sentenced in a High Court so preventative detention may be imposed.

A sentencing date will be decided upon during that appearance.

Police received complaints about the offending after Hall was sentenced in December 2012 for exposing himself, inducing and masturbating in front of seven-year-old girl who he met through the Salvation Army in Whakatane.

At the time he was sentenced to home detention and fined $2000 for emotional harm.

During the sentencing in 2012, Judge Rollo said Hall groomed the then seven-year-old girl and her mother into a position of trust.

Sensible sentencing!

The girl was probably so traumatised that she won't leave the house so it doesn't seem right that he gets the same sentence! What happened to the notion of punishing people for their crime? It seems that has gone out the window and now it's all about cost and prevention. Nonsense.
