Three Kawerau men have been sentenced to 12 years' jail for the shooting of two men in Kawerau in September last year.

Terere Kiwaho MacDonald, 29, Derek Maynard Savage, 52, and Deuce Derrick Savage, 21, will serve a minimum non-parole period of six years and three months after being sentenced on a charge of discharging a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in Rotorua District Court today.

Following a trial in June, the trio were found guilty of shooting Jeremy Patrick August and Gavin Dean Pirini at a property in River Road about 6.15am on September 13, 2013.

Police described the shooting as a 'targeted attack'.

St John Paramedics were called to the incident at 6.15am, but were only allowed access to the patients at 6.40am once police had cleared the scene.

The pair were treated by paramedics at the scene before being flown to Waikato Hospital by the TrustPower TECT Rescue Helicopter and the Waikato Air Ambulance, says a St John Paramedic spokesperson.

It's understood both men have made full recoveries from their injuries.

During the trial in June, Derek and Deuce Savage claimed they weren't at the property at the time of the shootings and MacDonald said he was there but only stood in the background and had no idea guns were involved.

In sentencing today, Justice Lang sentenced Deuce Savage to two years and three months on a charge of aggravated robbery and demanding with intent to steal in relation to an incident a month prior to the shooting.

MacDonald was sentenced to 18 months on an aggravated robbery charge in relation to the same incident.

The sentences are to be served concurrently with their 12 year jail term.
