Are you an organ donor?

Figures released from NZ Transport Agency show that more than half of Tauranga City driver's licence holders have ticked the donor box when applying for their licence.

A total of 57 per cent, or 52,916 of the total 92,785 Tauranga motorists, would donate an organ.

The data is based on the number of current licence holders as at June 29 this year.

In the Western Bay of Plenty, 56.47 per cent, or 19,999, of 35,412 licence holders are donors.

An NZTA spokesperson says the wishes of relatives will always be considered when considering a person for organ donation.
