Winston’s visit cancelled by fog

NZ First leader Winston Peters' visit to Tauranga today is being halted by fog in Auckland with his flight to Tauranga cancelled.

The MP was due to visit Tauranga today to speak to party members at the Wesley Centre in 13th Avenue this morning.

Fog in Auckland has cancelled NZ First leader Winston Peters' flight to Tauranga.

However his Air New Zealand flight to Tauranga due to arrive at 9am was cancelled due to fog in Auckland.

A spokesperson for NZ First says Winston is unable to make it to Tauranga today as the following flight was fully booked.

A total of 17 flights have been cancelled as fog blankets Auckland this morning. A total of seven domestic departures were cancelled, and six were delayed.

A selection panel for a Tauranga candidate was expected to be chosen today.

The exact date of an announcement of the party's Tauranga candidate for this year's general election on September 20 is yet to be set.
