A Weather Watch has been issued for the Coromandel as a strong, moist east to northeast flow covers the North Island on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Metservice says a Severe Weather Warning has been issued for heavy rain and severe easterly gales over Northland while a Watch has been issued for the north of Auckland, Coromandel and eastern Waikato.

A Weather Watch has been issued for the Coromandel by Metservice.

'In Auckland, Coromandel and Waikato, the risk is seen as moderate,” says the Metservice.

Further watches and warnings are likely to be issued later in the week as a strengthening northerly flow brings widespread rain later in the week.

On Friday and Saturday, a band of rain and strong northeasterlies is expected to move across the country towards the east.

The Metservice says from Coromandel to East Cape, there is a low risk of significant heavy rain from Friday to Saturday.
