Mount P-lab case adjourned

Two men facing drugs charges after the explosion of a P-lab at a Mount Maunganui property earlier this year have had their case adjourned until next year.

Michael Frederick Bonne, 57, from Mount Maunganui, and Papamoa man Rhys Maybury, 39, appeared in Tauranga District Court today where they were remanded on bail until August 14, 2014.

Bonne, who suffered severe burns when the P-lab exploded on April 23, is charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of precursor substances, possession of precursor equipment and possession of precursor material, arson and cultivating cannabis.

Maybury is charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of precursor chemicals and arson.

Bonne was allegedly found in the basement of the Oceanbeach Road after an explosion and subsequent fire at about 4am on Tuesday, April 23.

He suffered burns to 30 per cent of his body, including his chest and face and spent a month in the Waikato Hospital burns unit. He was arrested following his release from hospital.

Bonne is accused of causing the explosion that damaged the basement of the Mount Maunganui home.
