Tribute to rock legends in Bay

Rock legends Elton John, Rod Stewart and Cher will be honoured at Mills Reef Winery's next Stars Under The Stars Concert.

Now in its 11th year, the popular concert will return to Tauranga in January, where concert goers will be treated to a string of smash hits delivered by the world's most respected tributes to the three music icons.

Mills Reef Winery will host the rock legends tribute in January.

Mills Reef general manager Nick Aleksich says they worked hard to find the best artists possible for the tribute concert.

'Such is their incredible likeness, in voice and appearance, that fans are often left wondering if they've just witnessed the original artist.”

The concert will open with the Elton John Experience, featuring Lance Strauss, who is widely regarded as Australia's leading Elton John tribute.

The Elton John Experience has been in great demand for concert appearances since 1989, gracing stages from the Sydney Opera House to the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Elton John says the concert embraces every highlight of his long and illustrious career.

'I'm flattered.”

This will be followed by Canadian Dave Battah, who is known to be one of the world's greatest Rod Stewart tributes, presenting his Forever Rod show.

Dave's vocals and incredible likeness has been said to have fans thinking it is Rod himself. Also joining Dave is special guest Ashleigh Toole. The 2009 Australian Idol finalist will present her vocally powerful Hits Of Cher performance.

For more than 15 years, Dave has thrilled sell-out audiences from Las Vegas and London to Europe and the Middle East with his stage persona of Rod Stewart.

He says he is overwhelmed by his immense popularity. 'It's great to hear people tell me that I have given them something that to them, is just as satisfying, and probably just as close, as they are ever likely to get to Rod himself.

'I count myself amongst the few vocalists in the world that can truly emulate Rod's voice. I chose his music because it is so lyrical and all of his songs are as popular today as they were when they were released.”

'They also appeal to people of all ages, from all walks of life, all equally having a great time, singing along and enjoying themselves. It's the same all around the world, wherever I play.”

Mills Reef's 2013 Stars Under The Stars ‘Rock Legends' Concert is showing one night only on Sunday, January 27.

Gates open at 4.30pm for an afternoon picnic on the lawn, with the concert commencing at 6.30pm.

Tickets are $59 and will be on sale at Baycourt TicketDirect as from 9am on Thursday, October 18.
