University enrolments up

The number of full-time equivalent students preparing to study at the University of Waikato's Tauranga campus is up 20 per cent when compared with the same time last year.

University of Waikato vice-chancellor Professor Roy Crawford says the large increase over 2011 is due to strong growth in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

He also attributes the growth to the introduction of a new science programme in Tauranga.

'The introduction of science programmes in Tauranga is in direct response to demand from Bay of Plenty Polytechnic students wishing to progress to degree-level study, and it builds on our partnership with the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic,” says Roy.

He says there continues to be strong demand for places in the faculties of Education and Arts and Social Sciences in Tauranga.

Final enrolment figures will be available in late March.

Hope you are not lowering entry standards to get the numbers and ratios up. Rumours suggest you might be playing a dangerous game along these lines - I hope not and be warned it will only have one outcome if you try it on and that is a lowering in the international ranking of the College.
