Update on power outages in Tauranga

Powerco contractors are working non-stop to restore power to homes in the Tauranga region.

Since this morning's rain and strong winds, power has been going down in suburbs all over the show.

Currently, 100 homes in Otumoetai are without power. Contractors hope to have power back on around 4pm.

In Matua, 106 properties are without power, while 100 properties are affected in Mount Maunganui.

Power is estimated to be back on around 3.30pm in these regions.

A total of 655 properties are powerless in Omanawa. Power should be back on around 7pm, says the Powerco website.

Properties in Kairua and Oropi are also without power this afternoon.

In Paengaroa, 746 homes are affected by the outage, while 166 properties are powerless in Welcome Bay.

Power Outage Debacle

Despite the rain and wind having been forecast for the last 2 days, and the inevitable power outages, it seems somewhat incredible that it's going to take in excess of 36 hours to restore power in the Brookfield area. Surely the power companies and their contractors were prepared for this, even given the time of year ???
