Elderly man seriously injured in crash

A seriously injured man was flown to Tauranga Hospital following a crash near Opotiki overnight.

A 92-year-old man is in Tauranga Hospital in serious condition after his car crashed into the back of a stationary truck.

Emergency services were called to the crash on State Highway 2, east of Opotiki, near the intersection with Dunlop Road, at about 5pm.

The Tauranga-based Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was also dispatched to the scene, to fly the injured man to hospital.

Pilot and base manager Liam Brettkelly says the local man crashed his car into the back of a stationary truck which was parked on the side of a SH2, east of Opotiki.

'He received multiple injuries as a result of the crash and was stabilised by St John medics, before being flown to Tauranga Hospital in a serious condition.”

Senior Sergeant Ray Wylie is asking anyone with information about the crash to contact their nearest police station.

"A ute crashed into the rear end of a truck and trailer unit. The male driver was airlifted to Tauranga Hospital with serious injuries.

"No one else was injured in the crash. Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash and are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed it."

is a 92 yr old doing driving in the 1st place, this countries laws are stupid
