Emergency services are attending a serious crash on State Highway 2, between Waihi and the Athenree Gorge.
A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says a petrol tanker and car have crashed on the highway.
The caller, who does not want to be named, says the crash is blocking the Waikato side of the gorge.
"It looks pretty bad."
A police spokesperson confirmed to SunLive that a ptetrol tanker and car have crashed near the intersection of Mathers Road.
"SH2 is closed and diversions are being put in place."
