Local artists of all disciplines are being invited to apply for the 2017 Jann Medlicott Creative Arts Award.

The annual $2000 award is to enable a creative mind to commence or continue tertiary study toward a career in the arts.

The award was established in 2012, and has been awarded five times to artists specializing in dancing, drumming, acting, creative media production, and graphic design.

Acorn Foundation general manager Nicky Wilkins says Jann's reasons for setting up the award through Creative Bay of Plenty came from a desire to reward excellence in the arts and enhance the confidence of local artists in their own industry.

Applications opened on July 1 and close September 14.

Applications are made through Creative Bay of Plenty. To download an application form go to: http://www.creativebop.org.nz/cbop-funding.html

The Acorn Foundation is a local charitable trust. Established in 2003, the Acorn Foundation encourages people to consider leaving a gift in their will to benefit the Western Bay of Plenty community forever.
