Truck smashes head-on into tree

A truck and trailer unit carrying mail and other parcels crashed head-on into a tree overnight.

Emergency services were called to the crash on State Highway 2, north of Bethlehem, around 10.30pm.

A police spokesperson says a truck appears to have left the road and crashed into trees on the side of the road.

'The truck was reported to be carrying mail/parcels and the cab was damaged.

'The driver was initially trapped by the foot but ambulance staff on scene are recorded as not being overly concerned with his injuries.”

The driver was extracted from the truck by firefighters at the scene.

The Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit were also called to the scene.

The road was closed while CVIU were taking photos and examining the scene.

It was reopened at 12.50am.

Motorists can expect delays travelling through Bethlehem after a B-train truck crashed on State Highway 2.

A stop/go traffic management system is in place on SH2, between Wairoa and Bethlehem.

A truck and trailer unit crashed into a tree around 10.30pm, prompting the highway to be closed down as emergency services dealt with the scene.

The road has been re-opened, with the traffic management system in place.

is the reason why other routes should not be blocked, thats a long way to go around the other way, its pretty simple what happened just get that road open asap and stop fussing around
