Major delays on SH2 heading north

Northbound traffic is at a crawl to the north and south of Katikati on State Highway 2. Supplied Photo.

Once again northbound motorists travelling on State Highway 2 are facing lengthy delays, with traffic down to a crawl either side of Katikati today.

It's the second day in a row northbound motorists have found themselves in traffic jams which are being caused two lots of pre-planned annual resealing works to the north and south of the town.

The works are located in the Athenree Gorge by Mathers and Willoughby roads, and south of Katikati between Tetley and Hot Springs roads, and Thompsons Track and Walker Road.

An NZTA spokesperson says road users should plan their journey, abide by all speed signs and drive with extra care around the road workers.

I know sealing is good at this time of the year, but end of holiday period is stupid especially in restricted access to Tauranga area.

There is zero traffic management at these road works and no common sense we waited nearly ten minutes for the mannequin to turn the sign bloody hopeless and all of this for a badly filled patch.

disgraceful road

Given the population increase of the Tauranga area, SH2 is now completely inadequate. Email Simon Bridges and advocate for a tunnel through the kaimais to link up to the waikato expressway . Ultimately it will happen so why not now!!

What clueless moron organised the road works at this time, in 2 close locations. We were caught in this shambles and it took 39 minutes extra to travel 10 kms. These clowns need sacking from their 100k jobs.
