The body of the 32 year old man found in the Waikato river near the Huka Falls was that of Brent Christoffersen, of Masterton, say Police.

Taupo police and fire responded to reports that a man was in the river near the Huka Falls at about 5pm on Wednesday.

'The man was seen in the river before onlookers lost sight of him,” say police. 'Coastguard assisted police with the search for the man, and his body was discovered down river from where he was last seen.”

The Police Dive Squad was called to the scene to help in recovering his body.

The death is not thought to be suspicious and will be referred to the Coroner.

Police extend their thoughts to Mr Christoffersen's family and friends.
