Cadets grab a trifecta of wins

The opening round of the WBOPCA Colts Primary, Junior Secondary and Senior Secondary competitions on Sunday saw Cadets and Greerton take out the junior and senior secondary matches, with Mount Maunganui and Cadets winning the primary games.

Players contest the three round encounters under the banner of four local clubs as part of the WBOPCA age-group development pathway.

The highest score of the opening round was posted by Mount Maunganui in the primary division, who chased down the Te Puke total of 178/6, to grab a four wicket victory. Mount batsman Ben Vyver hit a half century for the winners.

Cadets were also in good form in the primary grade with Liam Collett top scoring with 53 runs as his side were dismissed for 177, before bowling Greerton out for 158. Cadets bowler Connor Smyth bowled line and length to be rewarded with five wickets.

Greerton junior secondary opening batsmen Taylor Bettleheim blasted the highest score of the opening round with unbeaten 81 against Te Puke. The Te Puke side were removed for 126 with spin bowler Braxton Fisher returning 4/17, with Greerton getting home with seven wickets to spare.

Cadets cruised to an eight wicket win over Mount Maunganui after bowling the Mount team out for 111. Mount batsmen Niven Dovey posted the encounters highest total with 47 runs.

Cadets senior secondary side completed the trifecta for the Tauranga Domain based club with a solid win against Te Puke. Cam Riley top scored for Te Puke with 41 runs, while Tom Renouf played a big part in the Cadets victory with 43 runs to his name.

Mount Maunganui posted 141 all out in the match-up with Greerton, before the Pemberton Park based side t6ook out a five wicket win. Sean Wakelin produced the best bowling figures of the opening round grabbing six wickets for just 15 runs. Josh Ormrod top scored for the victors with an unbeaten 49 runs.

SENIOR SECONDARY:

Te Puke 168/8 (Cam Riley 41, Andrew Randrup 38) lost to Cadets 169/5 (Tom Renouf 43, Max Delaney 28 no)
