What’s On? Galas & dog walks

Good morning Sunners and welcome to the start of the weekend, or as Elton John would say: 'Saturday, Saturday, Saturday!”

There's plenty of action taking place today, like meeting a legendary All Black at Pyes Pa School's 75th Annual Calf Club and Gala Day, or going on a road trip with Fido and Lassie to the TECT All Terrain Park for the Western bay of Plenty District Council's Wander Dogs outing.

If you're going to head out today take a coat and a brolly as the MetService is predicting showers and the chance of heavy rains and hail, which, if they do eventuate, should clear by the evening.

A plethora of free and fun entertainment will be yours for the taking at the Pyes Pa Calf Club and Gala Day which takes place at the from 10am.

Just some of the fun includes paintballing, helicopter rides, mower racing, a bouncy castle, raffles and prizes, plus some lip smackingly delicious foods and many other attractions including special guest, All Black legend and the man with hands like shovels, Sir Colin ‘Pinetree' Meads'.

While the Western Bay of Plenty District Council is inviting dog owners and their pooches down to TECT All Terrain Park for its Wander Dogs outing, which starts at 10am.

WBOPDC Compliance and Regulatory manager Alison Curtis says this is an excellent opportunity to get local dog loving people and their four legged pals together to socialise and exercise in the beautiful adventure park.

There's two walks to choose from – a 20 minute and 30 minute route, or for the keen walkers you can do both. After the walk, everyone will gather at the ‘off the leash' dog exercise area where Fido and Lassie and friends can have a run around while the humans enjoy a cup of coffee and a sausage.

'We are handing out doggy bags with free goodies including a fashionable poop bag, dog food, a lollypop for the kids as well as information on our new Wander Dogs Club and summer walk series,” says Alison.

So if you decided to leave the comfy confines of your home and are heading out for a drive today – be it to the dairy, down the road to your Aunty Flo's whare, or even Waikikamukau – please, please be careful on the road.
