Police have taken a 14-year-old male into custody this afternoon following an alleged assault and carjacking on a woman in New Lynn.

The 62-year-old victim was approached by the alleged offender at around 1.30pm while she was sitting in her parked vehicle outside New Lynn Mall.

An altercation has taken place and the victim has fallen to the ground.

The offender has then allegedly driven off in her vehicle.

The victim was found by a member of the public on the ground, coming in and out of consciousness.

She is now in Auckland Hospital in a stable condition.

She received a serious head injury.

The exact circumstances of the incident are still being investigated and we are in the process of collating CCTV footage.

Following the alleged assault police received a number of calls from members of the public regarding the victim's vehicle being driven erratically on the South Western motorway towards Counties Manukau.

They reported that it was being driven the wrong way on the motorway and was driving dangerously.

The vehicle was seen pulling into an address in Mangere, however the offender has fled from the scene on-foot.

Police staff carried out a number of area enquiries and have located the alleged offender shortly after. Detective Senior Sergeant Roger Small says police are not looking for anybody else in relation to the incident.

The 14-year-old will face a number of charges and is expected to appear in the Youth Court tomorrow.

'Police are now asking any members of the public who may have seen a 2000 blue Toyota RAV4 being driven between the hours of 1.30pm and 3pm in both the New Lynn area and on the South Western motorway.

This will assist police in building a full picture of what has occurred today.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Mike Clubb on 09 839 0600.

Alternatively, information can be provided to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Another underage Crim!

So, yet another story about an underage criminal. Perhaps if the cops/justice system stopped just giving them a small slap on the hand when crimes are committed, these youngsters may think twice before committing crimes. Surely we have gardens or public reserve areas where they can be forced to do community service, IN SERVICE OF OUR COMMUNITY. I'm not suggesting they be sent to prison, but some good measure of punishment needs to be handed out. They know they are going to get away with things, so there is no deterrent.

The parents as well, then they may take more interest in parenting their kids and making sure they keep them out of trouble!

Do you really think the parents said to the child oh its ok to do this? Your not even allowed by law to smack your child now.
