The man's head was seen bobbing in the water, when a woman from the yacht club rushed into the water and dragged him to the beach, says Kathy, a motorhome owner who was parked nearby.

Kathy believes the man to be in his late 30s.

She didn't see what he was wearing. The man was covered in a survival blanket on the beach.

'He was alive when he was lifted into the ambulance.”

The man has been transported to Tauranga Hospital for treatment.

We will bring you more information as it's available.
