Suspicious fire in the Bay

A fire in a Bay of Plenty town is being treated as suspicious as an investigation into the cause is launched.

Firefighters were called to a fire on a Turner Drive in Western Heights, Rotorua, just before 10pm.


Police are investigating a suspicious fire in Rotorua.

Flames were whipping across the house and the eight firefighters on the scene had to ensure the fire was under control so it did not cause damage to other properties, reports Stuff.

Firefighters remained at the scene for around three and half hours, and returned back to the stations about 1.30am.

It's believed no one was home when the fire started.

Police and a fire safety officer are investigating the cause of the blaze.
