Informing the debate

Tauranga City Council's pre-election report, which provides information to the community and prospective candidates to enable an informed election debate, has been released today.

CEO Garry Poole says the report identifies the key strategic issues facing Tauranga and the council ahead of October's local body elections.

The report also provides information about the major projects either in progress or planned over the next three years, plus financial information for the three years preceding the election, as well as this financial year and the three years following the election.

Together this should help readers consider how well the council has performed to date, and what key issues Council will need to address in the next term of office, says Garry.

'In October Tauranga residents and electors will choose their future mayor and councillors, those who will set the direction for our city on their behalf.

'This report aims to give you an overview of the key issues for the next few years – the big projects, the strategic challenges and opportunities we need to look into. I hope this will add to the public discussion in the run-up to the elections.”

Voters should take the time to read and consider the issues and projects planned for the community that are outlined in this document, says Garry.

The Pre-Election Report is available on Council's website Paper copies will be available in our Customer Service Centre and libraries from mid-week next week.

What CEO is going to produce a report just before an election saying his employers are doing a bad job. Those in the know might see between the lines or notice if things are going south or north . but for most of us it is just financial gobblygook .. To make the council and its councillors look good ..
