Rotorua Maroon have claimed Bay of Plenty's Ranfurly Shield of junior rugby the Tai Mitchell Shield.

In a hard fought final Rotorua Maroon where too strong and secured a 38 - 20 win over a valiant Tauranga East today.

Rotorua Maroon held a narrow 14-10 lead over Tauranga East at half-time at Memorial Park in Opotiki.

In a thrilling final, Rotorua Maroon showed their dominance with a flurry of brilliant individual tries. Despite a determined Tauranga East side Rotorua Maroon went on to win 38 - 20.

In the other matches held today Tauranga West beat Rotorua Gold 15-7 to place third, Te Puke where too good for Whakatane beating them 38-24 to place fifth, Rangitaiki dominated Opotiki to win 43-15 and take seventh spot and Tauranga North in their first time at the tournament managed an impressive 29-15 win over Galatea to finish ninth.Final Results:
