Woman critically injured on highway

A 26-year-old woman is fighting for her life in Waikato Hospital after being hit by a car on State Highway 2, near Plummers Point.

The woman was walking alongside SH2 in the vicinity of Plummers Point Road when she was struck at about 9.10pm, says Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion.

Police are appealing for information after a woman was critically injured on SH2 overnight.

The driver of the vehicle is helping police with their inquiries, says Ian.

The critically injured woman was flown to Waikato Hospital.

'Police would like to speak to anyone who might have seen this pedestrian, or other motorists in the vicinity at that time, particularly those who haven't yet been spoken to by police,” says Ian.

The highway was closed until 1am.

People with information about the crash are asked to contact Tauranga Police on 07 577 4300.

Alternatively, information can be left anonymously via the Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 line.
