Youth representatives wanted

The Thames-Coromandel District Council has extended the nomination period for Youth Voice representatives until the end of June.

Earlier this year a youth/council partnership group was established to explore how TCDC could facilitate an initiative to accommodate and encourage a youth voice on community boards.

With help from the Coromandel Youth Collective, council's developed a Youth Voice model as an avenue for young people to discuss their ideas and highlight issues and opportunities important to them.

'Youth are an important part of our community and our council is actively encouraging our youth to take up leadership roles in their community,” says community development officer Marlene Perry.

'We are committed to fostering today's leaders into tomorrow's champions to make sure the youth voice is heard in our district.”

Community Boards are seeking nominations for youth representatives who live in the Thames-Coromandel district, aged 16-24, have excellent communication skills, are passionate about giving young people a voice, and will be role models for other young people in their community.

Nominations close on Thursday, June 30. For more information and nomination forms visit: www.tcdc.govt.nz/youth-voice
