Tauranga embraces ultra-fast broadband

Tauranga has the second highest Ultra-Fast Broadband uptake in the country.

It's 28.1 per cent - just 0.4 of a per cent behind Whangarei. Regardless, Tauranga MP Simon Bridges wants more residents to get on board.

More people are taking advantage of ultra-fast broadband in Tauranga.

The rollout of UFB in the city was completed in March and residents are now able to connect to faster and more reliable internet.

'The latest quarterly figures show more New Zealanders than ever have access to better broadband thanks to the Government's UFB and Rural Broadband Initiative rollouts.

'These initiatives continue to make great headway, with many households, schools and businesses in Tauranga able to reap the benefits of access to better internet.”

Simon says it gives local businesses and schools a competitive advantage and enables them to make the most of the digital economy.

'It also makes connecting at home easier and more enjoyable.”

More than 1.2 million Kiwis, about a quarter of the population, are able to connect to the network as of the end of March.

Over 921,000 households, businesses, schools and hospitals can now connect to UFB, up 21 per cent on last quarter.

'The build is making rapid progress and is both on budget and ahead of schedule,” says Simon.
