Rider seriously injured in crash

A 51-year-old local woman is in Tauranga Hospital with serious injuries after her motorcycle and a car crashed at Paengaroa.

A woman rider was taken to Tauranga Hospital with serious injuries overnight.

The crash victim is reported to be in a stable condition in hospital today.

Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says the car being driven by a 19-year-old woman who was turning onto the highway.

The road was closed for four hours as the serious crash unit investigated the crash.

Ian says the driver of the car was not from the area.

The police investigation is continuing.
