Squash tournament this weekend

Sixteen top ranked international players will be taking to the court for the Devoy Squash and Fitness Open taking place this weekend.

The tournament will be hosted across three venues – Devoy Squash and Fitness Centre, Mount Squash Club and the Tauranga Boy's College gym, where a special glass court has been erected surrounded by grandstand seating.

The tournament got underway on Thursday and will run until this Sunday.

Last year's winner, Wellingtonian Evan Williams, is the number one seed for the men, and the highest rank local is Ben Grindrod at number four.

Jamie Oakley has a wildcard, having won the NZ Junior title last weekend. He is the number one U-19 player in New Zealand. Four South Koreans are also coming

In the women's tournament Madeleine Perry from Northern Ireland is the top seed. She has won 15 Irish national titles and was number in the world in 2011.

Other Kiwi participating are Lance Beddoes, Kashif Shuja, Zac Millar, Scott Galloway, Luke Jones (men), Emma Millar, Danielle Fourie, Abbie Palmer, Kailtyn Watts.

Women's Open draw features Devoy Squash Kylie Lindsay, former Commonwealth Games player, who currently leads the squash development at the Club. She is ranked #3 in the tournament.

All games at the Devoy Squash and Fitness Open will be livestreamed on nzsport.tv. Entry to all games is free for the general public.
