Online support for growing city

To enable council to meet and keep pace with the evolving digital needs of its customers, Tauranga City Council's Elected Members have endorsed the digital platform strategy.

The strategy aims to give customers more choices in their transactions with Council – online, face-to-face, over the phone, or in writing.

Council members have endorsed a digital platform strategy at yesterday's meeting.

The first major investment of the strategy is an update to Council's Enterprise Management System.

'The purpose of this investment is to provide a more efficient ICT system that will enable customers to communicate with Council through their choice of channel and device: smart phone, laptop, tablet or computer,” says group communications advisor Rachel Shicker.

Tauranga's population has grown by more than 16,000 since Council's last major ICT systems upgrade.

The investment will allow Council to accommodate this growth, as well as keep pace with the fast-changing ICT sector by delivering more services online.

'One of the many advantages of an Enterprise Management system upgrade is that it will enable our community to contact Council about several queries such as rates, dog registration and building consents at once, rather than through separate transactions.”

The updated system is the first step of Council's Digital Platform Strategy.

Council staff are currently working through activities and delivery timeframes.

What does this MEAN?

Are they justifying the recent purchase of more computers in an underhanded way or preparing us more MORE expenditure? Move most of the staff OUT of central Tauranga into cheaper office space or maybe work from home and stop this empire building.

This is this the same collective of self-preservation elected members who reject, refuse to allow, on-line and STV voting!

WHY would we want STV - "Single Transferable Vote". That would be rating those brave/egotistical enough to put their names on the ballot papers by their levels of ineptitude! Do you fancy your chances?

How ironic Murray Guy?

Isn't it a bit ironic in your comment to accuse elected members of self-preservation when you went to the extent of running as a Mount Papamoa ward candidate at a recent by-election? How desparate was that? As for this STV stuff, could you please fully explain the logarithym that the computer uses to choose the winners? Keep our election method simple and understandable, not like the Health Board.

Would be amazing if we could subscribe to a newsletter, and have NOTICE OF MEETINGS in our inbox BEFORE the 5 days notice to speak to an agenda item. Been asking for this for years.

Thankyou Colleen.....

Also even with my inept cyberspace knowledge I thought technology made things easier, so more efficiency = less staff????, a lot of Councillors have been very quite lately, try "steering the ship" a little better please, as you got elected telling us you would!!!.
