Katikati A&P enjoyed by crowd

Clouds and crowds have descended on Uretara Domain today, making Katikati A&P Show the place to be in the Western Bay.

Hundreds of people – young and old – are enjoying wood-chopping demonstrations, sheep races, shearing demonstrations, equestrian events, as well as a myriad of trade stalls and traditional show favourites in cool winds and under cloud cover.

This morning's cattle competitions drew the usual cow cockies as well and city folk showing their children what the show is all about, while cow milking contest was again a favourite to watch.

The Katikati Wrestling Hall has been buzzing with people, keen to check out winners of the traditional home industries competitions, and the photographic competition.

Outside the wood chopping match race demonstrations, organised by Val Baker from The Katikati Axemen's Association with sponsorship from Avanza, have drawn huge crowds.

Plus, families are venturing from stall to stall, watching butter being made at the Western Bay Museum tent, wrestling matches thanks to Katikati Wrestling Club, musical entertainment, belly dancers, with children enjoying Bumper Balls, Frozen Theatre, side shows and merry-go-rounds.

SunLive reporter Merle Foster was there to catch some of the action, which she reckons has drawn a much larger crowd than previous years.

Visiting the Bay... KK A&P was MUCH better than theTauranga A&P show... It could be made better by getting all the local clubs and organisations - sports, arts etc, to have a place to talk about local activities and get new membership. Great event, thanks to all who organised it.
