House fire in Hairini

UPDATE: Firefighters are working to salvage what they can from a house which was "completely engulfed in flames" this afternoon.

Three fire appliances from Greerton and Tauranga stations were called to the two storey home on Taumata Place, Hairini, around 1.50pm.

Northern Fire Communications shift manager Jaron Phllips says initial reports were that the bottom storey of the house was engulfed in fire.

"The first fire crews arrived to find the house well involved in fire. No one was injured.

"The fire has been contained and fire crews are currently undertaking salvage and ventilation."

Firefighters are dealing with a house fire in Hairini.

A house is reported to be completely engulfed in flames on Taumata Place.

Callers to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says the house is completely engulfed in flames.

Firefighters are on the scene battling the fire.

Meanwhile, an area of Tauranga Hospital is being evacuated after a fire alarm was set off.

It's unclear what caused the alarm to go and firefighters are investigating the matter.
