Lions lend a hand

The renovation of Brookfield Kindergarten's grounds has been completed thanks to the ongoing efforts of the Otumoetai Lions.

The Lions Club has been helping the kindergarten since 2013, says Lions club president Margaret Gill after a swale was created to prevent bark in the play area drifting onto the footpath.

They also stripped out the existing grounds to enable the Kindergarten's landscaper to carry out major reshaping and development. The second step was to paint fences and provide bins to help the kindergarten establish some raised gardens.

The job was wrapped up with planted edging between the play area and the path to provide a tidy finished edge with no bark flowing onto the path.

'The Lions Club of Otumoetai has been renewing its association with the Brookfield Kindergarten, which dates back to the early 1970s,” says Margaret.

'At that time, the club helped establish the kindergarten grounds shortly after it was built, and the Lions Club was established.”

'The club was pleased to be able to say it could help when the kindergarten approached us in 2013.”
