Community rallies for fire victims

A friend of the family who lost everything in a house fire in Pahoia in the Western Bay of Plenty is rallying to raise funds for the family.

The home that Kanyon Hart and Valerie Martin and their two children, aged one and two, shared on Tim Road was completely destroyed by fire last Friday.

Owner Maria Hart says her husband and daughter noticed smoke and could see it from one of two houses on the family plot.

'They went down and found the place in flames,” says Maria.

The 50sqm wood guest house with a mezzanine floor was 'completely engulfed in flames”, she said.

'It is just unbelievable. There is nothing left everything is gone, even his car parked next to it is melted.”

The Hart family have owned the property in Pahoia for three years. Although they have house insurance, the couple have no contents cover for the home.

A friend of the family has since set up a GiveaLitte page in the hope of raising money to help the family. So far the page has raised $90.

New Trend

Although this was a very tragic event seems to be a new trend to go public & get the good will of people to bail you out instead of obtaining insurance. Perhaps we could all save a small fortune by not obtaining the insurance required & rely on peoples generosity.
