Work underway on Dive Crescent

Tauranga's Dive Crescent is in the process of receiving an $800,000 face lift, with city council hoping to reveal a wider footpath along the waterfront before Christmas.

The opportunity to improve the path came about because of requirements to repair damage inflicted to the sea wall during a storm in July 2014.

Council communications advisor Marcel Currin says: 'It will end up looking a lot like the new wide footpath/cycleway at Beach Road.

'We are aiming to have everything finished by Christmas, but there is a possibility that we may have to complete the path in the New Year.”

The wider footpath is consistent with the aims of the Tauranga Transport Strategy and the City Centre Strategy.

Their aim is to create easy access to the city centre by a variety of modes, including private vehicle, public transport, foot and bicycle.

They also aim to construct an integrated and comprehensive network of cycle routes to cater for both commuters and recreational cyclists.

The reserve area next to Trinity Wharf Hotel is now part of the construction site.

Once work is complete, the area will be returned to a grass reserve, with casual car parking banned. However, there will be eight formal car parks installed alongside the road.

Please City Council, ensure you include improving the access and signage to the foreshore walkway that extends under the Trinity Wharf Hotel, the installation of a couple of information panels (bit of background history of Dive Crescent) and seating.

Another way to waste money

Few if any walk along this footpath it looks like a $800k money fest for cyclists.Never heard a breath of this thing in Annual TCC plan now it appears out of the leftfield woodwork with a TCC communications spinner trying to justify throwing money at.They built the Pilot Bay walkway for that amount for god's sake !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For goodness sake

OVER three-quarters of a million dollars for a footpath improvement? As a regular user of this area, other than those using the all-day free parking along the railway lines and the occasional pedestrian walking from the Sebel Trinity Hotel/Restaurant into town, this area is dead (Devoid of life). Are we seeing an upgrade to the environment to benefit private business interests once again?

It's the seawall not the footpath

The seawall is being repaired for $800k as it is failing. The cycleway is very much a side benefit.

Why?

Why wasn't this done during the extremely quiet winter trading period instead of the maybe slightly busier summer period? Once again it shows that Council is not interested in the businesses struggling to make a living in the CBD.

And carparking
