After an undefeated season, the Papamoa Under 10 rugby team have been crowned the Champion of Champions, my friends.

They took the title of best Bay of Plenty U10 rugby team after winning the Champion of Champions tournament held at Gordon Spratt Reserve in Papamoa on Saturday, August 21.

The weekend before the tournament, the Papamoa boys fought a close-match against a strong Arataki side buut came out on top to win the Western Bay of Plenty finals 37-27.

Then on August 21, the newly crowned Western BOP winners went mano-a-mano against Eastern BOP champs Paroa, and Central BOP winners Reperoa.

Each of the three teams played a total of two games, consisting of 25 minute halves, with the winner being decided on points.

Parent CJ Telford says during Papamoa's first match against Reporoa the boys showed great ball skills to pull off a 50-25 win.

'The final game was the decider for the title between the two winners of the day, Papamoa and Paroa.

'Both teams wanted the win and played with fire in their bellies but the Papamoa team displayed tight passing, fearsome tackles and some great trys to win the match 90-20.

'Coach Phil O'Reilly and all the supporting parents and whanau have done an amazing job bringing this ‘band of brothers' through the season taking out the title.”

The Papamoa Under 10 champion team is: Kobi Anderson, Christopher Berger, Lyric Brown, Justice Harris, Micah Hill, Joel Kearins, Rico Kelly, Damon King, Harry McManaway, Kerry O'Reilly, Kiwa Ross, Brayden Stowers, Billy Syme, Manahi Taoho, Josh Telford.
