Bay students set for windfall

Students from the Bay of Plenty are set to benefit from $1.5 million in research and development grants, made available through Callaghan Innovation and the government.

Bay of Plenty MP Todd Muller says the government is investing in the grants to help keen, qualified Kiwis get work in hi-tech industries.

The companies also gain by employing smart, ambitious young people to help advance their research and development projects.

'This is just one part of the government's programme to build a more competitive and productive economy,” says Todd.

Students with science, technology, engineering, design, or business qualifications are being helped to advance their skills and understanding of commercial research and development within New Zealand companies.

'There are nine future innovators who will benefit from research and development Student Experience Grants in the Bay of Plenty for 2015/16,” adds Todd.

More than 200 future innovators and 126 hi-tech companies around the country will be able to benefit from up to $1.5 million in research and development student grants, which is being made available through Callaghan Innovation.
