Police can now name the driver who died after a fatal crash on State Highway 26 on Friday as 76-year-old Cromwell woman Jennifer Claire Scott.

The crash involving two cars occurred near Frankton-Ladies Mile Highway in Queenstown about 3.50pm on July 31.

Police say the other driver is an 18-year-old man from Auckland who currently resides in Queenstown.

"He is in a stable condition in Southland Hospital and is expected to be released in the next few days."

Enquiries are continuing as to the cause of the crash.

Police are still requesting any persons who may have witnessed the crash to come forward and would ask that they contact Acting Detective Sergeant Grant Miller of Queenstown police, ph 03 441 1600.
