Bay man convicted of brutal murder

A Tauranga man found guilty of raping and murdering Auckland woman Blessie Gotingco can now be named.

Tony Robertson, 28, was on trial for four weeks in the High Court in Auckland in May.

A jury of seven men and five women returned the guilty verdicts following the trial.

Robertson ran into Blessie with his car deliberately before taking her to his apartment with the intention to rape her. He then killed her so she could not identify him.

During the trial, Robertson admitted to having hit Blessie with his car and stabbing her on the night of May 24, 2014.

However, he said he hit her by accident when he was high on methamphetamine and thought he had killed her.

He said because he was on an electronically monitored curfew he panicked and took her to his apartment, where he stabbed her to make it look like a random attack, before dumping her body in Eskdale Cemetery the next morning.

He denied raping her, strangling her or slitting her throat.

It can now be revealed that Robertson has a past conviction for indecently assaulting a child in Tauranga and was considered likely to reoffend.

This is the reason he had a curfew imposed on him and was made to wear a GPS tracker at all times.

Why was this man ever allowed out after his last offence? The law is weak and seems to side with offenders.

really.

Why on earth was he let out again to re-offend? Justice system is cr@p, clearly he didnt learn his lesson the first time, why be soft on people who show no remorse doing this sort of sh*t. Gummon.

They should have listened to Simon Bridges who was the Crown Prosecuter at the time of this low life earlier court case.
