Emergency services are at the scene of a serious crash on State Highway 30, near Horohoro.

Police say the crash is on the highway between Nicholson Road and Whirinaki Valley Road.

The road is closed at the intersection with SH1 at Atiamuri and the intersection with SH5 at Rotorua.

In the meantime motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays.

This road is expected to be closed for some time.

A second crash involving a truck and a car occurred at approximately 12.30pm on SH5 at Wairakei, Taupo.

SH5 at that location is also closed.

One lane is now open at that location but motorists are still warned to expect delays.
