A 17-year-old and a 27-year-old are in custody following an incident at Franklyn Village in Nelson in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The two men from Nelson have both been charged with assault with intent to injure.

A 46-year-old Nelson man, who suffered a head injury in the incident, has been transferred to Wellington Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Nelson Bays Police have a team of 20 staff working on the investigation and specialists from ESR are assisting with the scene examination.

At this stage Police are not seeking anyone else although they are keen to hear from anyone that might have information about this incident.
