Dissention over Rena decision

Ngai Tamarawaho hapu of Ngati Ranginui is distancing itself from the recently announced decision by the iwi to withdraw its opposition to the removing of the wreck of the Rena from the Astrolabe Reef.

Huria marae based Nga Tamarawaho is a hapu of the Ngati Ranginui iwi.

Ngai Tamarawaho kaumatua Peri Koho.

Nga Tamarawaho Kamatua Peri Kohu says they continue to support the call by Motiti Island Ngai Te Hapu and Patuwai hapu for the wreck to be removed entirely.

'That view is articulated in the claim that we made in the Court three years ago,” says Peri. 'To support the claim by Ngai Te Hapu and Patuwai to have the Rena removed from the reef.

'That's based on genealogy we have with them.”

Ngati Ranginui doesn't have those links, but Ngai Tamarawaho does, says Peri.

'We will be at the environmental hearings in September in support of our statements.”

Ngai Tamarawaho hasn't been invited to the restoration and mitigation meetings between Ngati Ranginui representatives and the Rena owners and agents. They were told that was based on the requirement that the negotiations needed to be confidential, says Peri.

He understands the agreement involves a financial settlement, but there's nothing yet on how that is to be used.

Ngati Ranginui Iwi announced this week that it is withdrawing its opposition to the resource consent application to leave the wreck on the reef. Calls to the iwi to learn if there was a mitigation or restoration portion included, have not been answered.

The restoration and mitigation offers are contained in the resource consent application. Because it is a part of the resource consent application process, the details of the various iwi and hapu responses to the restoration and mitigation offers, will eventually become part of the public court record.

The usual racial rants about "the Maoris" here: -------> begin!

Support complete removal

Divide and conquer...works every time. Good on Ngai Tamarawaho for sticking to their guns. As for you Steve Morris pull your head in,you should know better than to be stirring racial tension.

Quite the opposite actually

But..

Posted on 25-06-2015 12:49 | By awaroa

why, if you have such strong views Mr Kohu, didn't you do some work along the way to make a difference? I don't even see a submission in your name. Please don't make out like you actually care. We all would prefer full removal but very few have done anything about it, including you. Looking at it, the ones making the most noise at the moment are the ones who haven't done jack. Money where your mouth is or is that actually your agenda here..

Looks to me that the barbs have been out for years and are growing, CC8, nothing wrong with stating the obvious for those unable to "see" themselves. It very much helps get them into reality sooner.

Awaroa doesn't understand support

As I reads it, Nga Tamarawaho say they continue to support the call by Motiti Island Ngai Te Hapu and Patuwai hapu for the wreck to be removed entirely.

What you are embarrassed Murray by Iwi not thinking like you. Good on you making a submission - sort of gives you more right to speak up, but have you read the reports? Or is your talk out of a hole in your head? Find something to do with your spare time.

The settlement

should be made avail to residents that missed out on the use of the beach

johndoe being selective and mischievious

I am embarrassed to think overseas corporates have found New Zealanders with the attitude of johndoe to be so ready to accept whatever smoke and mirrors they feed them, provided it's accompanied with a few pieces of silver. I'm embarrassed that as kiwis we didn't, from the outset, make it blatantly obvious to those responsible (but apparently not liable)that as a nation we reject their action and their inaction. Leave and take your rubbish with you.

A financial settlement?

No, that cant be? Is that all of tis is about? Surely not? (but probably) LOL

do you think he's talking about Murray? Kangaroo Court? The grounding only happened 3 years ago. Get your facts in order mate and then have a go. Also look forward to seeing how influential yours and PK's "support" is and how much resources you both put up to support your case to "support" Motiti.. Ning I bet.
