Assault not gang related

Hamilton Police want to reassure the public that assault in the Hamilton CBD yesterday, which left one man hospitalised, was not the result of gang tensions as has been speculated.

Detective Sergeant Matt Cranshaw said a 36-year-old man is in a stable condition in Waikato Hospital after receiving head injuries during the assault at about 3pm yesterday.

'A 44-year-old man, who was known to the victim, has been arrested and is appearing today in the Hamilton District Court charged with Wounding with Intent to Injure.

'Hamilton Police assure the public that this is an isolated incident involving two people who know each other and was not gang related.”
